ICT Collaboration with Swedish partner universities - ICT, gender and development
In the last call for applications in 2007, SPIDER received a few proposals that were focusing on ICT and gender. None of the proposals were however granted funding at that time. Nevertheless, the assessment group unanimously agreed on the importance of the subject area and suggested that SPIDER would promote gender specific project proposals. As a result, SPIDER and the Sida Gender Helpdesk organized the workshop “Access, influence and empowerment, a workshop on ICT, gender and development” in March 2008.
During August-November, SPIDER opened up the first thematic call for application for its Swedish partner universities. From the submitted proposals, the assessment group decided to suggest two for approval, the final decision was taken by the SPIDER Board at the Board meeting on December 5th.
The projects that have received funding are:
- Women’s Digital Baskets in Rwanda – Blekinge Institute of Technology
Aim: Maintaining culture and traditions with the help of ICT while creating the opportunity for enterprise and development among women in Rwanda - Putting Knowledge to Better Use – Industry responsiveness to gender
differences in ICT demand in Vietnam – Lund University
Aim: Develop ICT services and products to meet the demand of female users. Identify key barriers to gender-specific technological development.
