Democrazy? ICT as a catalyst for democratic processes

In June 2011 Spider gathered actors from Swedish and international actors from government, academia, civil society and the private sector to discuss Empowerment, e-Governace and e-Government.

While there was consensus in that ICT can, and does, play a crucial role in democratic societies and democratizing processes further discussion revealed the complexities of the field; that democracy is just an enabler was stated already in the keynote and echoed throughout subsequent discussions. However, when it comes to the boundaries of democracy and who should pay for the implementation of ICT to enhance democratic processes discussions continued.
