Travel grant applications for 2013 should be submitted until the end of January 2013. Use the following template to apply.

Objective
The objective is to promote more research in ICT4D by supporting Master Students at Swedish universities to do fieldwork in developing countries for their thesis work on ICT4D.

Who can apply?
Only Spider’s partner universities in Sweden are eligible for this travel grant. The application should be submitted by the contact person at the partner university. Different departments at the university can share the grant, but the application must go through the designated contact person (see list of partner universities).

What is included?
The total amount granted to the applying partner university is SEK 100,000, maximum SEK 25,000 for each student. The grant can only be used to cover travel related costs, such as flights (economy class), local public transport, visa, vaccination, accommodation etc.

How and when to apply?
The call for applications is publicized on the Spider website and through the Spider network. When the application is approved, Spider will sign an agreement with the partner university and disburse the full amount against a written requisition. The travel grants must be used during the calendrical year it is disbursed.

Where can students travel?
The fieldwork must be carried out in a developing country (see DAC list for MFS). Priority is given for travel to Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Bolivia.

How is the grant managed?
The applying partner university is responsible for managing the whole process, i.e. submitting the application, selecting students, monitoring the progress and reporting the results. All the administration of the grant is managed by the partner university, including a financial audit according to the standards specified in Spider’s Financial Audit Guidelines.

When and what to report?
The partner university will submit a list of students who have received the travel grant, titles and abstracts of their thesis, and links to material published online. They will also submit a short travel story and photos prepared by the students, for online publication by Spider.
